COVILLI SUPPORTS FAMILY FARMERS WITH FAIR TRADE LIME PROGAM
Covilli’s lime growers are located in two states in Mexico—Veracruz and Yucatán—and both are family-owned operations. Covilli reminds retailers and customers that the juiciest, ready-to-enjoy limes are typically a bit yellow and have some give to the touch.
STORAGE ONIONS ALMOST DONE
Storage onions are almost done and we are looking to imports to finish out the season. Onions will be very tight for April, and we will see gaps on red and white onions. It is uncertain to when onions from Mexico will be available. Storage yellow and sweet onions continue out of the Pacific Northwest a little longer. California will start up with new crop onions in May.
WARM WEATHER ATTRACTS APHIDS
High temperatures and humidity for an extended period of time create the perfect conditions for aphids and mildew quality issues. We see this happen with organic produce every year when it gets too hot in March in the California desert and again during the warm summer months in the Salinas Valley.

WORLDWIDE GINGER SUPPLY TIGHT FOR THE NEXT 5 MONTHS
The ginger market is currently facing challenges, primarily attributed to a significant decrease in production from Peru. According to Roger Zardo of JLZ Produce in California, low prices for Peruvian ginger over the past three years have led to an unsustainable situation for farmers, prompting them to reduce the amount of ginger they plant and harvest. Ginger will continue to be tight, gapping entirely by the end of February,
MANGO VOLUME COMING UP SHORT
With significantly reduced volumes from both Peru and Ecuador, supplies of both organic and conventional mangos are very short and highly priced, with relief still more than a month away. Crespo Ataulfo Mexican Mangos have started with promotable volume on smaller 18ct fruit.
2 PINEAPPLE EXPRESS ATMOSPHERIC RIVERS TO AFFECT CALIFORNIA
We can expect prorates, gaps and quality issues due to the weather. Harvest crews will not be able to get out into the muddy fields to harvest. Cold and rain will also slow down production, tightening up volumes and prices will rise as supply decreases. This includes berries, citrus, arugula, sweet baby broccoli, leaf lettuces, green onions, radishes, salad greens and more.
