INTOXICATING FEIJOAS
The Feijoa, sometimes known as the Pineapple Guava, has soft, succulent flesh similar in texture to a pear with flavors of pineapple and banana and an intoxicating fragrance! Originally a native of South America, the fruit is now grown in California and New Zealand. Cut them in half and scoop out the fruit. Can also be used to bake breads, cakes, ice cream, cocktails and other wonderful treats!
Swift Subtropicals is located in a canyon between Los Osos and San Luis Obispo. The Mediterranean microclimate along with the cool air coming in from the ocean is good for the Feijoas. It brings a fair amount of moisture to an area that historically doesn’t get rain 9-10 months out of the year. Feijoas drop off the tree when they are ripe and ready to eat. Now in season through January, or until the first frost ends the season.
