2 PINEAPPLE EXPRESS ATMOSPHERIC RIVERS TO AFFECT CALIFORNIA
We can expect prorates, gaps and quality issues due to the weather. Harvest crews will not be able to get out into the muddy fields to harvest. Cold and rain will also slow down production, tightening up volumes and prices will rise as supply decreases. This includes berries, citrus, arugula, sweet baby broccoli, leaf lettuces, green onions, radishes, salad greens and more.
ONION SUPPLY POSSIBLY TIGHT THROUGH AUGUST
Organic supply is coming up short on on white, yellow and red onions. Most of the country buys the same organic onions and prices are going up quickly. Learn why there may be stress on the onion market until the end of summer.
SUPPLY GAPS AND PRICE INCREASES DUE TO WEATHER
Inclement weather all over California and into the desert in Arizona means slow growing and harvest crews can’t get into muddy fields to harvest. Expect some gaps and price increases on berries, citrus, brassicas, leafy greens, radishes and more.
FREEZING COLD WEATHER CHALLENGES
Though it is going to slowly warm up there are some long-term effects worth consideration. Prices will continue to stay high until the supply side stabilizes and price and quality do not track side by side. Often higher prices reflect difficult growing conditions and veg has more cosmetic challenges than we are used to. Which vegetables will be affected?
WINTER FROST AFFECTS AGRICULTURAL AREAS
Historically January sees disruptions in organic markets due to various factors such as frosts, winter storms and less daylight hours. Shorter days mean less sunlight hours for plants to grow and short harvest time in the fields.
WINTER TRANSITION
It is that time of year when many California growers transition their wet veg operation, think lettuces, leafy greens, broccoli and cauliflower, from the cooler areas of the Central Coast and Salinas Valley down to the warmer regions in the California desert, Imperial Valley and Yuma, Arizona.

SIDE HILL SATSUMAS SMALLER CROP THIS YEAR
Side Hill is expecting about 1/3 of their normal Satsuma crop this year and is off to a slow start. Weather is to blame with multiple days of brutal 115 degree heat in August 2022 putting the trees into shock and save the tree mode. Extreme heat over an extended period of time can cause the fruit to stop growing.
CRANBERRIES- AMERICA’S ORIGINAL SUPERFRUIT
