Covilli currently has about 2,000 acres under management in the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja and employs 900 people during the peak season. Between its own farming operation and those of several partner growers, Covilli sells more than 30 million pounds of organic produce each year. Covilli’s farming operation (they also have partner growers) is about four hours south of the Nogales, Arizona border with Mexico, within the Arizona-Sonoran Desert.
In addition to their farm in Sonora, they grow heirloom tomatoes in Baja on the outskirts of Ensenada. They also have a third operation that’s further south of Ensenada by a couple of hours, with the intention to grow product that mirrors their winter program in Sonora so they have continual year-round production on the veg side.
Covilli became Fair Trade Certified in December 2015. They are the first and only 100% Organic and 100% Fair Trade company in North America. Since December 2015 Covilli has sold over 29 million pounds of Fair Trade product! Thank you for voting with your dollars and contributing to the Fair Trade Premium. With those funds Covilli’s workers have completed 4 community projects and have another 3 in the works. See the projects below!
